AB Mauri: Building UK sourdough capability

From the 2026 Annual Report

Strengthening AB Mauri UK’s capability to support growing consumer demand in specialty bakery products with the largest liquid sourdough ingredients plant in the UK.

During the year, AB Mauri UK completed the full production start-up of a new liquid sourdough plant in Northampton in the UK, strengthening its capability in an important and growing segment of the bakery market. The investment builds on AB Mauri’s established expertise in fermentation and bakery ingredients, including its experience in developing sourdough solutions for industrial bakery applications.

The new plant expands local manufacturing capability and supports bakery customers looking to create products with distinctive flavour, texture and target audiences. This is particularly relevant as customers continue to respond to evolving consumer preferences for premium products made with simple and recognisable ingredients.

Following the plant’s start-up, customers have used this new capability to develop additional product segments. These launches demonstrate how specialist ingredient expertise, combined with incountry presence, technical knowhow and close customer collaboration, can successfully bring new products to market.

This investment reinforces AB Mauri’s presence in the UK sourdough market by enhancing its ability to meet customer requirements effectively through local capability, service and application expertise.
