Ohly: Transforming manufacturing for growth

From the 2026 Annual Report

For nearly 200 years, Ohly has been defined by continuous reinvention. That same long-term mindset is today driving one of the most significant investment programmes in the company’s history: a targeted transformation of its manufacturing network to support growth, resilience and emissions’ reductions for the decades ahead.

Part of ABFI, Ohly is one of the world’s leading suppliers of yeast-based specialities and culinary powders. This year it opened a new state-of-the-art spray drying tower for converting liquid yeast extracts into dry powders at its Hamburg plant, where it is also constructing a highly automated, energyefficient yeast fermentation plant. Together, these projects are reshaping the site into a world-class manufacturing platform and are expected to increase fermentation capacity by 50%, reduce its GHG emissions by 30% and strengthen operational resilience.

The Hamburg programme demonstrates how investment in reducing GHG emissions can also strengthen competitiveness: Ohly is working on reducing its environmental footprint (cutting fresh water usage by 40% and energy usage by 20%) while creating a stronger, more responsive platform for customers. The site supports Ohly’s ambition to achieve its target of net zero in Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 2030.

Ohly is now taking a similar approach in North America with a new production site in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Centred on a modern spray drying facility, the investment will add 70% capacity, improve customer proximity and strengthen Ohly’s US manufacturing footprint. The site has also been designed with future optionality, including potential co-location opportunities for other ABFI businesses.

Together, these investments show disciplined capital allocation in support of clear strategic priorities: growth capacity, customer service, operational resilience and reduced emissions. They strengthen Ohly’s position as a trusted long-term partner for customers and provide a more future-ready manufacturing platform for ABFI.
